Teaching Requirements

• Bachelors degree in any field

• 1+ years experience working with children (teacher, tutor, substitute teacher, coach, nanny, youth minister, youth organization volunteer, etc.)

• Computer with a stable Internet connection - 20Mbps (Ethernet recommended)

VIPKid Hiring Process

• Submit an application and personal information to VIPKID.

• Take part in an online interview with a VIPKID staff member.

• Deliver a 5-minute mock class demonstration.

• Sign a six-month contract.

Contract Information

• VIPKid contracts are signed every six months.

• VIPKID teachers are independent contractors.

Answers to Frequently Asked Questions

• Every VIPKid class is about 25 minutes.

• Each lesson is a one-on-one experience with a child. Lesson material is provided in the VIPKID classroom.

• Children have a workbook of the lessons at home. They have been introduced to lesson material before you teach it.

• This is an immersion English experience. You do not need to know (nor should you speak in) Chinese.

VIPKID Work Hours

• Teaching hours are flexible. We create schedules that work best in our busy lives.

• VIPKID requires teachers to teach at least 7.5 hours every week.

• The maximum number of available time teaching slots per day is 26 (182 per week).

• Some teachers work a few hours a day a few days a week. Some teachers teach 16-20 classes a day.

• Peak hours are Monday-Sunday, 6-10 p.m. (4-8 a.m., EST) and Saturday-Sunday, 9-11.a.m. (9-11 p.m., EST) in Beijing time.

Payment

• Payments are by direct deposit

• Teachers make between $7.00 - $9.00/class ($14 - $24/hour). The hiring staff makes its initial salary decision during the interview. The salary is not negotiable.

• There are participation incentives (arrive and finish class on time: $1 per class; teach more than 30-45 classes per month: $0.50-$1/class). See table below.

• Teachers with education degrees, English as a Second Language (ESL), and TESOL/TOEFL certification will start working for the company with a higher salary.

• You are eligible for a $0.50 per class/base pay raise at the end of one year when you sign your third contract. Criteria information can be found on the VIPKID Teacher Portal.

VIPKID Online Teaching Certification

• If you do not already have ESL, TESOL, or TOEFL certification, you must enroll in and complete the free TESOL and TEFL VIPKID online certificate process (available on the VIPKID website).

• INTERNATIONAL OPEN ACADEMY offers 120-hour TEFL or TESOL certification for $19 (reg. $119). I finished each course in less than 10 hours. Although this certification is not required by VIPKID, I completed the International Open Academy courses before my interview with VIPKID and earned $0.50 more per class.
